Tips to Share with Your Clients

Here are a few tips to share with homeowners about how they can save energy and money:
  • Don't let money blow out of the house. In addition to closing doors and windows when the heat or air conditioning is on, the homeowner should consider air sealing the home for even greater energy savings. Air sealing is one of the quickest ways to cut heating and cooling costs.
  • Turning the thermostat back from its normal setting by 7-10 degrees for eight hours a day can save as much as 10% a year on heating and cooling costs.
  • Did you know that about 90% of the energy used to operate a washing machine comes from heating the water? Switching the temperature setting from hot to cold water can significantly reduce energy use.
  • In the average home, 75% of the electricity used to power electronics and appliances is consumed while the products are turned off -- costing about $100 a year. Standby power costs can be cut by using a powerstrip and turning it off when the electronics are not being used.
  • Remind your clients that the more energy they save, the more money they'll save. Here's an article to share with your clients: "10 Easy Ways to Save Energy in Your Home."
Sincerely,
