InterNACHI and REALTORs agree.

(Idaho)  February, 2003 - Leave the home inspections to InterNACHI.

The International Association of Certified Home Inspectors (InterNACHI) is backing a major Senate Bill (1097) in the 2003 legislative session which would strike the requirement that real estate licensees perform a reasonable inspection of a property before it is sold.  The requirement first became law when the state's current real estate agency laws were written in 1996.  "Inspectors aren't licensed to sell real estate and real estate agents aren't qualified to perform inspections," said Nick Gromicko, executive director of InterNACHI.  Alex LaBeau, governmental affairs director for The Idaho Association of REALTORs agrees.  "Marketing and sales professionals should not be performing inspections.  We're setting up practitioners for lawsuits." said LaBeau.  InterNACHI, based in Valley Forge, PA is one of the inspection industry's strongest voices and has successfully prevented licensed appraisers from offering home inspections in several other states.  "Unlike appraisers, real estate agents don't want a piece of the inspection industry.  We are on the same side of this issue so I don't foresee any resistance to this Bill," said Gromicko.  "Home Inspections should be performed by home inspectors and we won't rest until every home inspection in America is performed by a InterNACHI inspector."
