In Re: Statement of Support for the Sensible Accounting to Value Energy (SAVE) Act

Dear Senator Bennet:

Thank you for recently introducing the Sensible Accounting to Value Energy (SAVE) Act. As the world’s largest organization of residential and commercial property inspectors who perform more than 10,000 property inspections every day, InterNACHI, the International Association of Certified Home Inspectors, strongly supports the SAVE Act and the important economic development-focused goals of this legislation.

We believe that tying energy costs to mortgage underwriting is needed, and long-overdue. Through important new private- and public-sector mortgage partnerships the SAVE Act can help save energy costs by putting energy information directly in the hands of homeowners via more than 15,000 certified U.S. home inspectors. The best time to educate a homeowner about energy is during the home inspection. Our trusted members can play a key role in encouraging a home energy upgrade (retrofit), and the purchase of an energy-efficient home. Essentially, we can help open the door to thousands of new U.S. construction and housing jobs through the SAVE Act.

As a business and energy policy leader InterNACHI offers the resources of our organization and our 8,500 inspector-members to help you advance this important piece of legislation. We provide professional training, accredited education and certification of property inspectors. InterNACHI’s broader mission is to educate homeowners by helping them understand the functions, materials, systems and components of their properties. Our inspectors are committed to providing consistent, accessible and trusted information to their clients about their properties' condition and home energy performance.

Thank you again for your leadership on this important economic issue. Please contact me with any questions.

Sincerely yours,

Nick Gromicko
