SCRANTON, PA- - FOR RELEASE DECEMBER 2004
National Association of Certified Home Inspector (InterNACHI) announced today that
it has approved Thomson Education Direct’s Home Inspector program as an approved
source of continuing education for Home Inspectors. The announcement was made
by InterNACHI Executive Director, Nick Gromicko.
The program (offered through Thomson’s Business and Industrial Division) give
participants instruction in home design, building requirements, and the entire
inspection process including report writing and recognition of environmental health
dangers.
The program (newly revised and updated for January 2005), is comprised of 7 courses
containing 16 lessons. Included are supplemental material, learning aids, and
audiocassettes designed to prepare the student for professional success.
Starting in January 2005, students will also be able to earn continuing education
units (CEUs) by enrolling in single courses.
To complete the entire program, students are required to complete a practical
hands-on home inspection using the ITA Matrix checklist or 3-D Inspection System
Software and creating a narrative summary report. The test inspection must follow
nationally accepted standards and is returned to the student with grading notations
and suggestions.
Students are monitored through separate examinations and are required to adhere
to a code of conduct detailed in their student handbook.
The home inspection course has been granted approval by the following states:
Illinois, Arizona, Oklahoma, Nevada, and South Dakota. However, students should
check with their state regarding specific licensing requirements.
Education Direct courses are specifically designed for independent study with
the advantage of instructional support. Tutors are available toll-free by phone
for personalized instruction from 8am to 9pm, Monday through Friday, or may be
contacted by e-mail or written correspondence.

entire program is completed satisfactorily. Individual course completion results
in a CEU certificate.
