Iowa Passes New Legislation: How to Become an Iowa-Licensed Home Inspector

BOULDER, Colo. (May 30, 2025) – The new Iowa Home Inspection Accountability Act (SF460) has passed unanimously in both the Iowa House and Senate and was signed into law by Gov. Kim Reynolds. This legislation codifies qualifications for home inspectors, and establishes comprehensive regulations for home inspections and standards for inspection reports, as well as penalties for non-compliance. The new legislation takes effect on July 1, 2025.

To become a licensed home inspector in Iowa, you must do the following:

New inspectors: Send a list of 100 addresses of inspections you've performed or participated in to [email protected]. Don't send the reports, just the list of addresses.
