Denver Inspector Residential Rental Property Licensing

In 2022 the City and County of Denver began a program to issue permits for residential rentals, requiring an inspection by a registered inspector.

Per the City of Denver, only inspectors who meet the qualifications established by the ordinance DRMC 27-192 can perform RRP [Residential Rental Permit] inspections. To perform RRP inspections, a person must be: (a) Certified by InterNACHI or the Master Inspector Certification Board, and (b) Certified as an R5, C5, or C8 Combination Building Inspector by the International Code Council (ICC).

Inspections by anyone without both required certifications -- one from (a) and one from (b) -- won't be accepted. Applicants must provide copies of inspector certifications as part of the application.

InterNACHI has a free, online 2021 International Residential Code (IRC) Exam Study course available to members who need to become ICC certified to participate in the program. More information on how to become a City and County of Denver registered inspector can be found HERE.
