How to Become a Licensed Home Inspector in Louisiana
InterNACHI's free online pre-licensing course is approved by the Louisiana State Board of Home Inspectors; online; and free for members. InterNACHI is listed as a state-approved provider of a free online pre-licensing course. Click here to view our state approval.
InterNACHI's pre-licensing course (online & free for members) is approved by the Louisiana Board to fulfill the 90 hours of required instruction and training.
30 hours of in-field training and 10 live home inspections are additionally required by Louisiana to become a licensed home inspector in Louisiana. Details about the 90, 30, and 10 Hours of Training Requirements:
Ninety hours of the required instruction and training shall consist of classroom hours of home inspection course work approved by the board. You can fulfill the 90-hour requirement by taking InterNACHI's online courses. See courses.
30 Hours
Thirty hours of live field instruction are required to be done in person with a board-approved trainer. View approved trainers.
In addition to completion of the 130 hours of home
inspection instruction and in-field training, the applicant shall also attend
the report writing seminar conducted on behalf of the board and pass the board
approved examination of the Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics.
State Required Forms:
Each student needing to complete the pre-licensing training must email education@internachi.org with the following documents for Louisiana:
Certificate of Completion Form-Similarly, each student should notify the Education Department when they've completed their courses. You may also request a final certificate be sent to your email address. Email us for assistance at education@internachi.org.
Insurance for Inspectors
To be a licensed home inspector in Louisiana, individuals must meet certain requirements for adequate insurance coverage. InterNACHI members are eligible for discounts and enhanced coverage. Visit nachi.org/insurance for information on how to sign up.

Louisiana State Board of Home Inspectors requires home inspectors to take Continuing Education to renew their license.

Radon Tester Certification (online & free for members):
Although there are no Louisiana state regulations for naturally occurring radon, the state refers the public to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) guidelines on radon and indoor air quality. Visit the Louisiana website for details.
Wood Destroying Organisms (online and free for members):
Per Louisiana "Title 7
AGRICULTURE AND ANIMALS
Part XXV. Structural Pest Control, Chapter 1 Structural Pest Control Commission" §121-
A wood destroying insect report shall be issued by a person who is licensed by the commission in termite control or a certified WDIR technician who is working under the supervision of a person who is licensed by the commission in termite control. InterNACHI's Wood-Destroying Organism Inspection course is currently not approved with the state of Louisiana.

The Home Energy Score is similar to a vehicle's miles-per-gallon rating, and any qualified inspector in the U.S. can generate a Home Energy Score in less than an hour. The Home Energy Score provides:
a score on a scale of 1 to 10;
facts about the home and its energy use; and
recommendations generated by the U.S. Department of Energy to improve the score and energy efficiency.
