How to Become a Certified Home Inspector in North Dakota

Home Inspector Certification (online & free for members):

To perform home inspections for a fee in the state of North Dakota an individual must be registered under North Dakota Century Code. To register as a home inspector you must:
To take the InterNACHI exam and to have access to unlimited education, Join InterNACHI as a member at $49 per month or $499 per year. 

Insurance for Inspectors

To be a licensed home inspector in North Dakota, individuals must meet certain requirements for adequate insurance coverage. InterNACHI members are eligible for discounts and enhanced coverage. Visit for information on how to sign up.

Home Inspector Continuing Education (online & free for members):

Radon Tester Certification in North Dakota (online & free for members): 

Though North Dakota does not regulate individuals performing radon testing, measurement, or mitigation the North Dakota Department of Health Radon Program endorses EPA guidelines for radon measurement and mitigation work done within the state. Home Energy Score Assessor (online & free for members):

The Home Energy Score is similar to a vehicle's miles-per-gallon rating, and any qualified inspector in the U.S. can generate a Home Energy Score in less than an hour. The Home Energy Score provides:
  • a score on a scale of 1 to 10; 
  • facts about the home and its energy use; and 
  • recommendations generated by the U.S. Department of Energy to improve the score and energy efficiency. 
  To become a Home Energy Score Assessor, you must:
  1. be an InterNACHI-Certified Home Energy Inspector (online & free for members); 
  2. complete the 3D-house training (online & free for members);
  3. agree to participate in a Quality Assurance Plan with other local Home Energy Inspector(free for members); and
  4. email Jazmin to participate in the program.


Real Estate Cards (free for members):

Inform licensed real estate agents that they can attain free, online Continuing Education provided by InterNACHI. Give an agent a real estate card that provides simple instructions on how to register and access the free, online education. When a real estate agents logs into a course and enters an InterNACHI member's ID number, the member will be automatically notified by email.

Wood Destroying Organisms 

North Dakota currently does not regulate pest inspections, however the North Dakota Department of Agriculture does regulate pesticide application.
