How to Become a Certified Home Inspector in Utah

The state of Utah has implemented House Bill 58 in 2025, which introduces a new license category for Private Home Inspectors under Utah Code §58-56-9, effective January 1, 2026. All private home inspectors in the state of Utah are required to be licensed by the Utah Division of Professional Licensing. To become a licensed home inspector in Utah, H.B. 58, Utah Code §58-56-9 requires the following:

Proof of Certification from a Certifying Organization - You may be certified by any of the organizations approved by Utah DOPL, such as InterNACHI.
General Liability Insurance - You need to provide at least $500,000 in coverage.
Errors & Omissions Insurance - You need to provide at least $500,000 in coverage, with DOPL to be named as the Certificate Holder.

InterNACHI’s Certified Professional Inspector (CPI®) certification and education satisfy the state’s certification requirement.

You should maintain your InterNACHI CPI certification and membership, and keep your insurance at the required limits.

Radon Tester Certification in Utah (free & online)

Utah requires individuals to become certified by completing an AARST-approved radon course and passing the AARST exam.
