How to Become a Licensed Home Inspector in New Mexico

Home Inspector Licensing

The New Mexico Home Inspectors Board will be adopting new rules for Home Inspectors to get licensed starting January 15, 2021. Home Inspectors will have three options for licensure: (a) application for licensure by training and examination, (b) application for licensure by experience and examination, and (c) application for licensure by credentials.

For the latest updates on the new rules being drafted and adopted, please refer to the New Mexico website for home inspectors. Please refer to the New Mexico Home Inspectors Board, Notice of Rule Filing, Dec 3, 2020.

According to the rules, the board shall issue a license to an applicant for licensure by training if the applicant completes at least 80 hours of classroom training, which may be completed online, that is approved by the US Department of Education (USDE). InterNACHI's Home Inspector Certificate Program provided by internachi.edu is a nationally-accredited certificate program (accredited by the national accrediting agency of the USDE) Students who wish to become licensed using InterNACHI's Online Inspector Exam must complete a proctored version of the exam before July 15, 2021. For more information on the proctored exam, please email education@internachi.org
