How to Become a Registered Home Inspector in North Dakota
InterNACHI’s North Dakota Home Inspector Pre-Registration Program
Welcome to the North Dakota Home Inspector Registration page. North Dakota requires individuals who perform home inspections for compensation to be registered with the North Dakota Office of the Secretary of State under North Dakota Century Code. Before beginning the registration process, applicants should review the state’s requirements for examination, insurance, application, and renewal.

To Become a Registered Home Inspector in North Dakota, You Must:
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Pass a home inspection examination offered by one of the approved providers. Take InterNACHI's Proctored Online Inspector Examination. To help practice or prepare for the exam, you may take InterNACHI's Online Home Inspector Exam (free and open to everyone), take the InterNACHI® Ultimate Home Inspection Practice Test (free and online for members), and take InterNACHI's accredited online courses (free and online for members).
- Provide proof of current liability insurance, including errors & omissions insurance with a minimum coverage of $100,000 or more covering all inspection activities. InterNACHI members do receive a discount on insurance, and you can get a quote at nachi.org/insurance.
- Pay the required $200 registration fee with your application.
- Submit a completed application (SFN 54381) to the North Dakota Office of the Secretary of State.

can return to this page to download a North Dakota-specific
certificate.

After You’re Registered — Keep It Active
North Dakota home inspector registrations must be renewed annually by June 30th of each year. At this time, North Dakota does not require continuing education to renew a home inspector registration.
To Renew Your Registration, You Must:
- Submit a Home Inspector Renewal (SFN 58339) form to the Office of the Secretary of State;
- Provide current proof of liability and errors & omissions insurance with at least $100,000 coverage. InterNACHI members do receive a discount on insurance, and you can get a quote at nachi.org/insurance
- Pay the required $50 renewal fee.
