How to Become a Home Inspector in Maine

InterNACHI School is accredited as a postsecondary education institution by the national accrediting agency of the U.S. Department of Education to provide tuition-free online training, examination, certification, and continuing education to InterNACHI® members in Maine.

Maine Home Inspector Licensing 

As of March 2019, Maine currently does not regulate home inspectors. There is a legislative proposal for home inspector licensing. 



Home Inspector Certification

To become a Certified Home Inspector in Maine, complete InterNACHI's free, online Home Inspector Certificate Program.  There are six steps to become certified, and the certificate program is free and online for members. 
 


 

 

Continuing Education (online & free for members)

To maintain your home inspector certification, you must complete 24 hours of Continuing Education every year.  To see the list of Continuing Education courses, visit nachi.org/education.
 
 
 
 

Insurance for Inspectors

Although Maine doesn’t have requirements regarding insurance for home inspectors, many local real estate boards and home inspector business franchises require their affiliate members to meet certain coverage standards. Hands-On Training at House of Horrors®

Real Estate Cards (free for members)

Maine-licensed real estate agents can attain free Continuing Education credits to help them keep their licenses current.  InterNACHI has free informational cards that members can hand out to real estate agents that explain how to log into the free courses.
 
When an agent logs into a course and enters the member's ID number, the member is automatically emailed. The first slide of the course includes the member's contact information. 
 
 

 
 
 
 

Radon Tester Certification (online & free)

      

Maine requires that individuals be certified by AARST-NRPP or NRSB in order to perform radon measurement, testing, and mitigation.The Maine Division of Environmental Health's Radon Section accepts all National Environmental Health Association’s National Radon Proficiency Program (NEHA-NRPP)-approved radon courses for both initial training and Continuing Education. NRPP:
InterNACHI's free, online "Radon Measurement Professional Initial Training Course" is AARST-NRPP approved for both initial certification and Continuing Education. To complete all components of the NRPP Radon Certification, please visit their site for more information.  
 
NRSB:
InterNACHI's free, online Radon Measurement Professional Initial Training Course is NRSB-approved for initial certification. For those looking for NRSB continuing education, members should take the free, online "Advanced Radon Measurement Service Provider" course.
