How to Become a Licensed Home Inspector in Kentucky
InterNACHI’s Kentucky Home Inspector Pre-Licensing Program
Welcome to the Kentucky Home Inspector Licensing Program. Kentucky requires individuals who perform home inspections for compensation to be licensed by the Kentucky Board of Home Inspectors (KBHI). Before beginning the licensing process, you should review the Board’s requirements, approved education providers, examination requirements, and application procedures.

To Become a Licensed Home Inspector in Kentucky, You Must:
- Complete a Board-approved 64-hour in-person pre-licensing education program through a provider approved by the Kentucky Board of Home Inspectors. You can find InterNACHI’s approved partner schools here: https://www.nachi.org/vendor-offers
- Pass the National Home Inspector Examination (NHIE) or another examination approved by the Board. To help practice or prepare for the exam, you may take InterNACHI's Online Home Inspector Exam (free and open to everyone), take the InterNACHI® Ultimate Home Inspection Practice Test (free and online for members), and take InterNACHI's accredited online courses (free and online for members).
- Complete the required supervised field training, as specified by the Board and included within the approved education program. Find an InterNACHI® Mentor near you.
- Submit a completed application and all required documentation to the Kentucky Board of Home Inspectors.
- Pay all required application and licensing fees.

After You’re Licensed — Keep It Active
Kentucky home inspector licenses are renewed on a 2-year renewal cycle in accordance with the renewal schedule established by the Kentucky Board of Home Inspectors. Licensed home inspectors must complete 28 hours of Board-approved continuing education during each two-year renewal period, with a minimum of 14 hours completed per year. InterNACHI provides state-approved CE.
You must retain proof of CE completion for your renewal cycle. InterNACHI® Certificates of Completion are available via the InterNACHI® dashboard FOREVER.
