How to Become a Licensed Home Inspector in New Hampshire
InterNACHI’s New Hampshire Home Inspector Pre-Licensing Program
Welcome to the New Hampshire Home Inspector Licensing Program. New Hampshire requires individuals who perform home inspections for compensation to be licensed by the New Hampshire Board of Home Inspectors, which operates under the New Hampshire Office of Professional Licensure and Certification (OPLC). Before beginning any pre-licensing education or applying for licensure, you should familiarize yourself with the board’s education and examination requirements and application process.

To Become a Licensed Home Inspector in New Hampshire, You Must:
- Be at least 18 years of age and hold a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Complete 80 hours of board-approved home inspector education covering the core components of residential buildings. InterNACHI’s 80-hour New Hampshire pre-licensing program is approved.
- Pass the National Home Inspector Examination (NHIE) or another examination prescribed by the board after completing the 80-hour training. To help practice or prepare for the exam, you may take InterNACHI's Online Home Inspector Exam (free and open to everyone), take the InterNACHI® Ultimate Home Inspection Practice Test (free and online for members), and take InterNACHI's accredited online courses (free and online for members).
- Provide proof of general liability insurance as required by the board. InterNACHI members do receive a discount on insurance, and you can get a quote at nachi.org/insurance.
- Submit a completed application and required fees to the New Hampshire Board of Home Inspectors.

Once you've completed the program in full, you will be able to download your certificate of completion.
After You’re Licensed - Keep It Active
Licensed home inspectors are required to complete 20 hours of approved continuing education every two years as a condition of license renewal. InterNACHI provides state-approved CE.
At least one hour of continuing education must be on building regulations or recent revisions to state building regulations, and the remaining hours must be relevant to the practice of home inspection.
Continuing education must be documented and submitted to the board at the time of renewal.
You must retain proof of CE completion for your renewal cycle. InterNACHI® Certificates of Completion are available via the InterNACHI® dashboard FOREVER.
