How to Become a Licensed Home Inspector in Connecticut

Welcome to the Connecticut Home Inspector Licensing Program. Connecticut requires individuals who perform home inspections for compensation to be licensed by the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection, Occupational & Professional Licensing Division, Home Inspection Licensing Board (CTDCP). Before beginning any pre-licensing education or applying for licensing, you should familiarize yourself with the board’s requirements for education, supervised inspections, examination, and application procedures.

To Become a Intern Permit Home Inspector in Connecticut, You Must:

1. Have successfully completed a high school diploma or its equivalent.
2. Complete 40 hours of board-approved home inspection education from an approved education provider. InterNACHI® is a state-approved education provider.
3. Identify a licensed Connecticut home inspector who agrees to supervise your internship and is in good standing with the state.  Find an InterNACHI® Mentor near you.
4. Apply for and be issued a home inspector intern permit by the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection. 
   
   

To Become a Licensed Home Inspector in Connecticut, You Must:

1. Have earned a Home Inspector Intern Permit.

2. Perform 100 home inspections under supervision, of which at least 10 must be under direct supervision by a licensed Connecticut home inspector, and maintain a training log signed by your supervisor. Find an InterNACHI® Mentor near you.

3. Pass the written examination administered by the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection as required for home inspector licensure.  NOTE: You will be given information about taking the exam once this application has been accepted. To help practice or prepare for the exam, you may take InterNACHI's Online Home Inspector Exam (free and open to everyone), take the InterNACHI® Ultimate Home Inspection Practice Test (free and online for members), and take InterNACHI's accredited online courses (free and online for members). 

4. Submit a completed application with the required application fee and all required documentation, including your supervised inspection logs.
